New Blog by Jade

Hi, I'm Jade.

Welcome to my blog. This is where I will keep records of all the announcements, happenings and developments pertaining to my documentary, 9/11 Fear in Silence: The Forgotten Underdogs. The film was released on October 14, 2006. I figure I'd write when I can. I think it'd be a good habit for me to do that-- write journals about it.

As of right now, I don't have any new information to share except that the film is awaiting words from the A-List film festivals. People ask me why start with the A-List first. Well, it's how they do it! When you get rejected from the A-List film festivals, then you go from A-List to the B-List film festivals.

An example of A-List film festivals... Cannes, Sundance, Cleveland, Toronto, Tribeca, Rottendam, Berlin, Hotdocs, Silverdocs/AFI, Full Frame, Hollywood Film, Hollywood Black Film and so forth. That's just an idea what they are.

I've also submitted my film to the B-List festivals. Some of them are as good as the A-List festivals. They treat you better sometimes. Truly, who wants to be associated with snotty, fake-asses who think they are better than you. :-)
Art = respects = art.

Words of advise:

We filmmakers need to be extra careful, because, some festivals have rules and regulations about premiering a new film for the first time. Some are flexible and are not as strict as the others. If you-- say for an example, submit your film to Pan African Film Festival in LA, and you submit the same film in the same documentary category the same year to Hollywood Film Festival or any elite festivals on the 'west coast in the LA area,' chances are the Hollywood Film Festival will not accept your film. They want to be the FIRST. They'll disqualify your film from entering compeitions or slot entry. The rules and regulations also apply internationally i.e. Cannes, Toronto, Rottondam, etc. Decision, decision, decision.

It's all about competitions and publicity. In addition, politics. Sad that we have to have politics in the arts. *Shrugs*
There are nearly 3,000 film festivals globally, so, chose carefully and wisely.

As for my film submission and acceptance... it's just the beginning... So stay tune and I will keep you posted.

Have a great day!

Jade
